Deposits/Cancellations

The booking fee, or deposit, is minimum $50, or 30% of total cost of tattoo, as discussed with artist.

This is non-refundable and is required to book an appointment.

Preparing for your Tattoo

Make sure you are well rested the night before your tattoo.

If you tend to have dry skin, moisturizing for a couple days before your appointment is a nice way to prep your skin.

Always eat a good meal before coming in to keep a healthy level of blood sugar.

Getting tattooed while your body is hungry, hungover, or exhausted can change your experience from good to bad quickly.

Do not drink alcohol or take Tylenol or similar medication (unless you're prescribed) because it may make you bleed more and that will make ink harder to get into the skin.

Wear comfortable clothing, and preferably clothing you don't mind getting ink on. I understand wanting to look cute, but I will feel terrible if I ruin your favorite shirt!

The Parlour runs cold since it's downstairs, so bring a blanket or extra layers

If you're in for a long session, bring a pillow!

Many people also like having headphones in case they need a distraction or get overstimulated.

Designs

Designs are prepared in order of appointment to ensure every piece gets the attention it deserves.

Design sketches will be provided the day before your appointment for approval or redesign.

Occasionally, designs may not be readily available or it won’t be necessary to share beforehand. We will allocate time before your appointment to go over your design with you and make any necessary adjustments.

If you require a complete redesign less than 24 hours before your appointment we will require you to reschedule for a later date.

Cover-ups

I am willing to take on cover-ups on an individual basis. Please understand that I prefer to be realistic in my abilities to cover your tattoo effectively. You must be willing to work with me on the design, giving me majority control - of course I will do my best to fit what you have in mind.

If you have any concerns, please reach out! We are here to help and want to make sure you love the work you’re getting.

Aftercare

Traditional aftercare:

Always wash your hands before touching your tattoo!
Wash your tattoo with an anti-bacterial liquid soap, we recommend Dial Gold hand soap. Be gentle, do not use a washcloth or anything that will exfoliate your tattoo. Only use your hands.
Use warm water first, this will help open your pores to get out excess fluids and cream.
When you are done, use cold water to help close your pores. This ensures that when you reapply cream, it will go on top of your skin instead of in it.
The first 3-4 days: rub a small amount of cream on your tattoo after washing. We recommend Aquaphor or Tattoo Goo. This should be applied in a very thin layer like chapstick - too much cream will cause the tattoo to become soggy and you will lose ink.
If you have a very large piece: on the first night, you may want to bandage your tattoo with either dental bibs or saran wrap to prevent sticking to your bedding. Do not use any cloth bandages, as the fibers of this material can adhere to your open tattoo and hinder the healing process and cause infection.
On the 3rd or 4th day, your tattoo will begin to peel. This is normal! Do not pick at the skin. You may begin using a mild, white, unscented lotion, free of dyes or perfumes.

Continue with moisturizing for about 2 weeks. It's advised to keep it up indefinitely, but we're being realistic.

Derm sheild:
The first derm application should stay in place for 24-48 hours, depending on level of exudation. It is normal for blood and fluids to collect under the bandage.
A second application can be used for several days, if needed on a larger piece. Gently clean and remove all blood/ink/plasma from your skin and pat the area completely dry between applications. Do not wear any piece longer than one week.
Removal:
Gently peel the derm by pulling it slowly from the edge back over itself. Do not pull the bandage upwards.

After your last application of derm you may begin using a mild, white, unscented lotion, free of dyes or perfumes for 1-2 times daily for about a week.

Application:

Gently clean and pat dry the tattoo and surrounding area, ensuring there is no soap or any residue on the skin. Cut the derm to cover tattooed area plus a 1 to 2 inch margin from the edge of the tattoo. Peel off backing to expose adhesive side and position the derm over the tattoo with the adhesive side facing the skin. Gently apply using light pressure, starting from the center to the edges to eliminate air bubbles. Do not stretch the derm during application.

Things to avoid:
- Do not pick, scratch, peel, slap, rub or irritate your tattoo.
- You can shower, but you may not soak your tattoo for 2 weeks in any water. No swimming, bathing, or hot tubbing.
- You may not expose your tattoo to the sun for at least 3 weeks, after that you must use sun block.

- Do not use a tanning bed for at least one month after your tattoo appointment.

- Avoid heavy sweating around the area unless you can wash soon after.
- Do not wear abrasive materials, jewelry, or shoes that rub against your tattoo.
- Do not let anyone touch your tattoo, unless they wash their hands.
- Beware of gym equipment, wash it well before using it.

To reduce pain/swelling:
- Ice your tattoo (with a sanitized ice pack)
- Elevate your tattoo
- Take short showers

If you do not take care of your tattoo, it may become infected or damaged. Some redness, swelling, and even bruising is 100% normal. Some ink may also come to surface, this is also normal.

Infections are very red around the outside of the tattoo and may have thin red lines extending from it. It may ooze, pus, or bleed abnormally.

Numbing Cream

Please talk with your artist before applying any topical numbing ointments. Certain brands can result in adverse reactions, changes to the skin texture, and poor healing of the tattoo. Your appointment can be denied if a numbing cream was applied without the consent of your artist.
DO NOT use numbing cream if your have allergies to epinephrine, lidocaine, or prilocaine. Do not use if you have a liver disease and heart condition.
Numbing cream most common side effects include irritation, redness, skin discoloration, or mild burning. Prolonged redness, irritation, skin being hot to the touch, and sensitivity can occur.

A test spot should always be applied with each tube of numbing cream.

As an alternative a low percentage lidocaine such as Bactine can be applied during the tattoo session to alleviate some discomfort.
